On November 18, 1983, I discovered a magical place called Dance Away. Back then, just about the only place to go dancing was smoke filled bars. Dance Away was not only smoke-free, it did not serve alcohol either. Since there is no alcohol, it is open to all ages. With the generations dancing together, there was already a wider variety of music than at most venues but it didn't stop there. At Dance Away, I was exposed to a whole world of dance music. The music played there is nothing like what you hear in a bar or club. While in bars and club, you'll usually hear a single genre, at Dance Away you'll hear just about anything that people can dance to. On any night you'll not only hear familiar music from any decade, you'll also hear music from many countries. African, Latin, Middle Eastern and Asian.
By 1984, I was going regularly to dance and working as a volunteer and in 1986, I became a DJ. Eventually, I was payed staff when I was not DJ. I have been backup manager, trained new DJs, participated in committee meetings and helped maintain and upgrade the sound system. In 2002, I helped put in the 125 pound speakers 30 feet up in the walls. In 2005, I became manager.
In 2001, the Unitarian Society wanted to use Parish Hall for other things on some fridays so I bought my own mobile sound systems so Dance Away could keep going in another room when Dance Away got bumped.
In 2002, I began going to Dance Jam Ventura, another alcohol free dance venue. Later that year, I also started DJing for Dance Jam Ventura.
In 2004, I went mobile with Eclectic DJs. If you need a mobile DJ for your wedding, party or other event in Santa Barbara, Montecito, Ventura, Goleta, Lompoc, Isla Visa , Santa Maria or nearby contact EclecticDJs
