Email Clipboards

There are many clipboards that WebTV users can use but they are on other people's pages and they use cookies. Some people don't like to use something on another person's page because they can't be sure that it is only doing what it says it does and some people are paranoid about cookies. This page is to show you how to make your own easy to understand clipboard that you can put on your own web page. There is one problem. The longer your saved email is the more likely you will get bit by the disapearing email bug. More on that later. Unlike cookied clipboards you can only count on your information lasting about 24 hours

The email clipboard work because when you start an email and leave it, it will (usually) be there when you come back. If you push GoTo and replace http: with mailto: you get your Write Email screen. Type something there, do some surfing and the next you go to mailto: your information will still be there. If you go to mailto:1 and store something there and get sidetracked and want to store a second set of information you can go to mailto:2 and store it there. Use numbers to name your information because it can't be accidently sent. Make them into links and they look like this:

Clipboard 1 | Clipboard 2

Get the code.

Another way to do it is to use a pull down menu. In this example you can bypass the Mail List if all you want to do is write an email. If you click No Sig your sig will be off by default

Save A Clipboard On An F-Key

  1. Create a new page with the code below.
  2. Save that page in your Favs.
  3. Assign it to an F-Key.
  4. Edit the page and delete the !--

  5. Now when you push that F-Key you will get the Send Mail page
  6. Note: The reason you have mailto:1 is because that is an invalid address. If you accidently hit send, it won't go any where. You can change the address to mailto:?no_signature=true and then you will have a Send Mail page all ready to go.

PHP Email Clipboard

If you have a server that supports PHP, you can make email clipboard that is immune to webtv's javascript bug.

Just like the Javascript bug, copy the code and save it as clipboard.php. Save it to Favs then edit out the !--

Disappearing Email Bug

Sometimes you have information saved while youare looking for something and when you come back to your clipboard... Arggh! It isn't there any more! this rarely happens to a short note but the longer the email the more likely that will happen. If you have an email longer than 2 screens it is a good idea to save it (Cmd-a, Cmd-c) go back to the page with your clipboard, and open it again. If your information is gone just Cmd-v it back. This should "fix" it so you can surf and return to it up to 24 hours later. If it is really long you may have to fix it every time you edit it or you will find the pre-edited version when you return.
