14. Using the CMD Key
Here are a few uses of the CMD key, or command key. These may not be all of the uses of this key, but they are the ones you will use the most. Note that the CMD key is always used with another key. You depress the CMD key, and while holding it down, press any of the "augmenting" keys to get the correct results.
CMD + left arrow = Moves the cursor to the beginning of a line of text which you are writing..
CMD + right arrow = Moves the cursor to the end of a line of text which you are writing.
CMD + down arrow = Moves the cursor directly down to the Send button when in the body of an email.
CMD + scroll up = Scrolls all the way up to the top of the page you're viewing.
CMD + scroll down = Scrolls all the way down to the bottom of the page you are viewing.
CMD + Delete = Deletes an entire line of text which you have written. Place the cursor anywhere on the line you want to delete. (A real time-saver!)
CMD + A = Highlights all the printed text on a web page or an email.
CMD + F = Finds and highlights text on the page you're viewing. ( Or use your Find key) Just enter the first few letters of the word(s) you want to find into the "popup" box, and then press Return. This highlights the beginning of the text you want to copy. To keep copying text, use the Shift key + any arrow key to highlight more, or less text.
CMD + C = Copies the highlighted text.
CMD + V = Pastes the previously copied text. (Be sure you lightly tap the "V" momentarily, or you will paste the text multiple times.
CMD + G = Finds the next occurrence of text you've already highlighted.
CMD + B = Finds the previous occurrence of text you've already highlighted.
CMD + R = Reloads, or refreshes the page you're viewing. (Gives you the most "updated" version of that particular page.
CMD + CTRL = Has two uses!
(a) Displays the website address (URL) of a clickable link, without actually having to click onto the link. Place your yellow highlight box over the clickable link, and then press CMD + CTRL at the same time. The address of the link (or most of it) will be displayed in the status bar at the bottom of your screen.
(b) Reveals the total number of emails that have ever existed in an email folder. For example, place your yellow highlight box over the most recent email in your inbox, and then use CMD + CTRL to find out how many total email messages you have ever received for that username. Do the same in your Sent and Saved folders!
CMD + W (Plus units only) = brings up the PIP (picture in picture) mode... for viewing TV while surfing the net. CMD + W is also the procedure for discontinuing the PIP mode. (It's like an on-off switch.)
CMD + M = moves the PIP to each corner of the TV screen.
CMD + P = Brings up the Printer Option Panel
CMD + X = Used for deleting or moving text. First, highlight the text you want to move or delete. Then, press CMD + X. The highlighted text will disappear, but will remain in the buffer's 'memory' in case you want to paste it elsewhere. (This only works on a "writeable" screen, where you have either typed or pasted text.)
CMD + Y = Takes you directly to the Instant Messenger screen.
CMD + Power (the main power button on your keyboard) = "Hangs up" the phone line to your WebTV without powering off completely. This allows you to go offline for a while and then return to the exact same spot on the web! [Same as using the Options key and choosing hang up.] Just use the Return key to get back online.
