41. Read Your MSN TV Email on a Computer!

Updated 7-1-02

You can't log on to the "MSN TV® Service" on a computer. By that, I mean that you can't surf the WebTV® world, actually open your WebTV email "inbox" , nor can you go to your WebTV Home, or any WebTV® newsgroups on a computer. All that "content" is behind a WebTV "firewall," which prevents entrance by computers.

However.... You can read your WebTV email on a computer! There are certain steps that you have to take, but once you have set it up, it's "good to go" from then on!

Each WebTV username can be set up to allow remote email retrieval from another WebTV unit, from one WebTV username to another, from a Web-based email account, or from a computer.

Here's what to do:

Log on to the WebTV username from which you wish to retrieve email.

Go to Mail

Click on Settings

Choose Remote Mail

Next, click on Remote MSN TV Mail

On the next page, click Continue

Enter a password you will remember into the two boxes labeled POP password and Confirm password

Then, click on the box at bottom to enter a checkmark for Allow Remote Access

Click Done

The next screen will show the username and POP-3 server name. Choose Done

Note: This must be set up for each WebTV username from which you would like to retrieve email.

That's it! Now, when you find yourself unable to log on to your WebTV to check your email, here's all you do....

1. Get online on any computer or MSN TV internet terminal

2. Go to www.mail2web.com

3. Type your MSN TV email address

4. Type the "POP" password that you entered earlier.

5. Click on Check Mail

It's free, simple, and easy to use!
